A very brief history:

The development of  the style we know as "sass" was an organic creation over time from a fusion of various dance styles. Bringing together jazz, funk, voguing, drag, and heels, sass is a style that can explore a variety of music genres and interpretations. Sass began to include empowering movements that were not seen in the classical heels dance sequences but were more customary in jazz or hip hop. Sass is heavily influenced by pop culture and music video culture.
